File Preparation

Our goal is to keep printing with us as simple as possible. As a result, we don’t have any hard and fast requirements.

Some tips though which may help you achieve the best prints possible with us:

Lots of pixels! Don’t worry about DPI, what we are after is as many pixels as we can get our cotton gloved hands on! Full resolution, cropped to how you want them printed. If they need enlarging to reach your desired print size, send them full resolution and we’ll sort the rest!

Cropping, that’s a doozy! Make sure your crops match the print size you are ordering! If your images are 2:3 (full frame ratio) naturally they need to be cropped if you’re wanting square prints. Likewise if they’re panoramic format and you’re wanting A4’s and so on. Please make sure you are preparing the file for the size you are ordering.

When it comes to file format, we’re pretty easily pleased, a big JPG or TIFF file is great. TIFF is lossless which tends to print best. PSD or PDF can also be ok but there’s a little bit of room for error with these file types.

Don’t over sharpen your images! View them at 100%, if you can see jaggy edges, you’ve over sharpened. More good images are ruined by over sharpening than anything else!

Colour profiles. Let’s not get too far into the weeds here as it’s a topic that drives creatives crazy and stimulates all sorts of nerdy needs in technical folks. sRGB or Adobe RGB is all we need. Adobe RGB is currently the closest to the profiles we print with and results in the best prints. I love that your Lightroom and Photoshop are working in this amazing ProPhoto colour space but ProPhoto has no business around a print lab YET…. maybe one day in the future, not yet!

If you don’t know what all this jargon means, that’s perfectly ok, get in touch and we’ll give you a hand!
