York Photographic Awards – Winner – David Mizen
One of my prints for Kalamunda photographer, David Mizen took out the Open Colour category at this year’s York Photographic Awards which took place 23rd March – 1st April at York’s Sandalwood Gallery.
David’s image titled ‘Under A Southern Sky’ a well executed night time landscape of the West Australian bush featuring the Milky Way and Southern Cross over head. The image drew significant praise from the judges with comments such as “An evocative image and composition, you are drawn to its quiet mood and gentle expressiveness”
David’s image was subtly processed and colours handled with a great deal of care by myself. The photograph required special attention in the sky as to minimise the distracting hue of the light pollution creeping in from the city in the distance.
To enhance the blacks and create the most dynamic print possible, the photograph was printed on Chromajet Pearl Metallic 255gsm paper. The Chromajet Metallic also allowed the stars over head to sparkle, further adding to the impact of the piece.
Congratulations again to David. A beautifully produced photograph, completed to the highest quality gaining deserved accolade.
